Note: Educating the community about lesser fascist apologist elements in local subculture scenes is not our usual focus, especially in this era of increased active fascist street violence, but we decided that this business and business owners warranted a small article as, soon, hopefully, folks will be able to get out and about and bands will play shows again. Preventing fascism from taking root is a historic lesson that antifascists should never forget.
Since 1995, Connie Dean Wallace and her partner, Frank Joseph Schaefer, have operated their “punk boutique,” Another State of Mind, now located at 3404 SE Hawthorne Blvd, in Southeast Portland. It is not known when they began casually selling clothing associated with fascist bands, but it has been some time. They have previously sold Death in June merchandise featuring the appalling Nazi Totenkopf image, a death’s head that was used by the Waffen-SS and other Nazi military units. A recent report, described below, was far from the first time that potential customers have questioned the shop’s distasteful merchandise. Its co-owners have had plenty of time to disavow this business practice, but they simply don’t care. Despite knowing better, they continue to hawk wares that normalize fascism within the local punk and metal scenes.
When Connie was asked why she was selling Burzum t-shirts, highlighting the item in the corner of her store, she stated “Punk has to be uncomfortable sometimes” and “The metal crowd likes them, so I’m going to keep selling them.”
Burzum, the band whose t-shirt is in question, is a fascist Norwegian black metal band that, like many others from their era and even now, appropriate pagan culture and twist that tradition into vile, hateful bullshit that attempts to hide in plain sight and normalize white nationalist views. Racism is rampant in the neofolk (from “neo volk,” an echo of Nazi Reich phrasing) and heavy metal/black metal scenes, and members of both scenes often cross over. Wallace is quite aware of nuances within these subcultures, and doesn’t mind making a quick buck from selling fascism.
Entryism, when fascists attempt to spread their ideology through inserting themselves into existing subcultural scenes, has been a scourge of Portland and many other cities since the 80s, when Nazi punks and boneheads (who call themselves skinheads but are just white nationalists) attempted to bully their way into punk and metal venues and menace anyone who didn’t fit their ideal of Aryan ancestry, or who might have been LGBTQIA. “Nazi skinheads“–really racist boneheads–were repelled by young, self-organized antiracists who beat them back through their bravery and determination.
Since the 80s and 90s, disgusting fascist and white supremacist elements have been repeatedly called out and stopped in their tracks thanks to the unity of the real, antifascist punk and skinhead scene. We at PNWAWC are proud to trace our roots back to Antiracist Action (ARA), an antiracist and antifascist current that came from these subcultural scenes. Since about 1990, ARA repelled racists and fascists when they have attempted to march, host meetings, bully non-white folks at shows, or even simply tried to claim turf and make their presence known through stickers or tags on the streets.
Connie and Frank fancy themselves old school punks that have a cool, edgy style. Actually their aesthetic is more mall punk/Hot Topic than anything else, but we digress. Anyway, apparently they haven’t learned how to be decent folks who refuse to enable fascism. Hopefully they change their ways and have some standards about what items they will stock at their store. We will keep you posted here.
To Connie, Frank, and all others who, whether passively or actively, let fascism take root in DIY punk and metal circles, we want to quote Dead Kennedys (whose shirts and patches they sell) “NAZI PUNKS FUCK OFF!” Punk isn’t capitalist, despite your shady interest in profiting from it. You can’t have it both ways–either it’s Crass, Conflict, and Dead Kennedys, or it’s bullshit Burzum. When you ride the fence you’re complicit with fascism.
PNWAWC is committed to letting everyone know who these scene profiteers are, so that all can make conscious decisions about which small businesses to support and which to avoid. Profiting from promoting fascism is any absolutely inexcusable. We encourage all Portlanders to boycott Another State of Mind and take their business elsewhere until Connie and Frank get the message that Portland won’t tolerate their enabling any longer and they stop carrying merch from fashy bands. You can also give them call at the store at (503) 224-8259 to let them know what you think.
Jacob Nathaniel Palasek is a 44-year-old computer repair technician in Grand Rapids Michigan. Jacob is a self-professed member of the American Nazi Party. Lately, Jacob has been seeking out anti-racist activists to threaten them while professing to be a Neo-Nazi. TW: racist homophobic language.
It appears that Jacob has been a known white supremacist in Grand Rapids for quite some time. Below is an article written to a white power blog site about an alleged ass whooping this ridiculous Nazi claims to have sustained. Maybe next time Jacob will jump in the dumpster instead of cowering behind it.
What is very concerning about Jacob Palasek is that he appears to own a computer repair company called Compudoc. This gives him access not only to customers’ potential address and billing info, but also access to nearly everything his customers have saved to their computers. Neo-Nazis should not have access to unsuspecting people that could be their potential targets.
Jacob’s Compudoc Yelp page can be found here. Feel free to let Jacob’s potential customers know that he is a racist, homophobic Neo-Nazi.
Jacob Palasek also runs another Business with the same logo and same basic name. His second business is called Mathdoc and through it he serves as a math tutor, also for customers that are likely not aware of his Racist and homophobic views. Mathdoc can be found here and they appear to have a google reviews option tab.
Joey Gibson, the Washington-based alt-right vlogger came crawling outta his momma’s $1.7 million dollar basement in 2017, after voting three whole times in his entire privileged adult life, and founded the Patriot Prayer group (PP), a bible thumping Fashy flash mob of MAGA hat owning, holy rolling cafeteria Christians who get their kicks jumping Portlanders, befriending and hiding behind their bros in the blue, and slinging bigoted Trumpian propaganda that may cause you to puke in your mouth a little. This knuckle dragging ex-con idiot quickly turned his back on his family & faith movement in exchange for the popularity that came with creating a personal fan base of bottom dwellers that includes:Rapists, Pedophiles, members of; far-right militias, anti semitic neo-Nazi Stormer Book Club folks, neo-Nazi skinheads, Identity Evropa, RAM, True Cascadia, and many other bigoted extremists.
Despite his rise to stardom amongst America’s worst people, Joey’s behind the scenes life is more like a sad Country Western song. He got canned from his work; his wife left him; many local Christians are ousting him as a false teacher; he royally bombed his publicity stunt of a political campaign when he lost the Republican seat for the US Senate; and he began begging relentlessly for money via social media platforms after he crashed his car while texting, and for every perceivable excuse he can muster up to keep the grift going.
However, in true Beverly Hillbilly fashion he appears to have recently struck it rich and is now living the dream with his number one fashy fanboy Russell Schultz. Gibson and Schultz have been associates since Schultz started attending PP rallies in early 2017. Schultz’s truck has been spotted frequently in Portland as he has used this large vehicle to harass and menace anti-fascists, ICE protestors, those who are visibly LGBT, and even casual bystanders. Joey has never disavowed PB or any other violence perpetrated by his followers, and has now overtly begun to collaborate with Washington III Percenters, a hardline right-wing militia group, and a grab bag of violent ex-cons and thugs that include rapists and child molesters in an attempt to keep the violence alive during the absence of his old allies the Proud Boys.
Shortly after he began his grifting campaign of begging the masses of right wing lemmings for money, he purchased a home that lists a November 2017 sale price of $470,000 in the Vancouver burbs. Joey has graciously allowed his BFF Schultz to live in the basement to chug Blue Moons in his new home, in exchange for house cleaning, rails of cocaine, hugs, and constant ego massaging. What Gibson doesn’t want you to consider is the fact that the gofundme to fix his car and his financial campaigning for the Senate seat likely is how he continues to afford his plush new Fashy crash pad, and his expensive habits.
Interestingly enough, Kathryn Townsend, Gibson’s campaign treasurer for his failed U.S. Senate campaign abruptly resigned on September 18th approximately two months before the election without offering an explanation. It is widely presumed that she left the campaign to avoid legal accountability for his mishandling of campaign funds. This may also explain the February 19, 2019 warning letter that Gibson received from the FEC for failing to file his year end campaign finance report.
Schultz recently denounced the Proud Boys after assisting in the doxxing of at least one of them, so he and Joey could have more time to Netflix and chill while brainstorming ways they can further profit off of all the suckers who have faithfully followed and supported them in recent years.
In the end Gibson received less than five percent of the vote, which means that roughly 20K dupes voted for this turdlord. If he actually wanted to win, and planned to use campaign contributions in an ethical way–to campaign in VANCOUVER–he would not have spent every spare moment coming to Portland, right?
We heartily encourage any interested parties to investigate Gibson’s dubious campaign finances. You can give Townsenda call at (253) 405-6072 and ask her some questions about the FEC filings and campaign contributions yourself.

Due to consistent dangerous behavior incompatible with the antifascist movement, this is a declaration of separation from the group known as Great Lakes Antifa (also known as Nashville AntiFa).
These demonstrated behaviors include the following:
Spreading false statements and narratives to the media and public, both in person and on social media.
Claiming false relationships to individuals and groups to gain entry to trusted spaces.
Claiming other groups’ work as their own.
Creating ghost or sock social media accounts for chapters of established organizations that they do not belong to, such as ABC and ARA, in order to gain influence.
Attempting entryism by sending GLA members to join other antifascist and activist groups, to make those groups more sympathetic to GLA.
Employing highly suspicious tactics typical of infiltrators (offering groups and individuals large quantities of money or resources) in order to gain influence.
Attempting to silence and discredit anyone who questions these misleading and suspicious statements and actions.
Spreading negative rumors about individuals and organizations with no basis or proof.
Starting public fights and feuds with activists, leaving actions and organizations exposed to attack by the state and fascists, rather than seeking non-public resolution.
Placing other activists – including people of color – at risk of state and fascist oppression by exposing them and their personal information in the media.
Physical and verbal assault of marginalized people and antifascists.
General lack of security culture exhibited in their sharing of information.
Employing questionable vetting practices for membership.
Specifically recruiting individuals who have been kicked out of other organizing groups for bad behavior.
Failing to hold themselves accountable to any concerns of other antifascist and activist groups regarding these behaviors.
As a movement, we now move to protect our organizations from these dangerous practices of Great Lakes Antifa. In solidarity with each other, those signed below will no longer work with GLA due to the above mentioned behavior, and regard GLA as unwelcome in our spaces and at our demonstrations in the future.
Since the announcement of Trump’s candidacy and his eventual ascension to the presidency we have seen a rise in white supremacist/fascist organizing and a level of hate crimes across the nation reminiscent of the 80s and 90s. Still, like a virus, fascism adapts to different conditions and takes on a different face in each new iteration: During the wave of white supremacy in the 80s and 90s, Nazis were much more easily identifiable. Born out of the punk rock scene, they primarily hijacked the style of traditional non-racist (and in many cases, anti-racist) skinhead culture, adopted a militant look, and took to the streets to commit acts of violence against those who they deemed as lesser-than. This then-new breed of violent white-supremacists were simply called “skinheads” in mainstream media, but to traditional anti-racist skinheads and to anti-racist activists they were and continue to be called “boneheads”.
Nowadays, the violent, dimwitted bonehead no longer encapsulates what we think of when we think of a neo-Nazi. Since Trump’s election, a much more subtle type of neo-Nazi has arisen: These days, white supremacist, fascist, and neo-Nazi organizers seek to hide in plain sight, wearing khakis and polo shirts, and speaking in code to project a more ‘polished’ image of their racist agenda, while largely organizing and recruiting online away from the gaze of society, using online platforms such as 4chan and other white supremacist web sites.
Since Trump became president we have seen a growing wave of pro-Trump rallies across the nation acting as a subterfuge for recruitment to these organizations. With Trump’s rhetoric of mass deportations, building a wall, and extreme nationalism, Nazis, fascists, and white supremacists have come out into the light of day, seeking to normalize their hate by shifting the “Overton window” in and effort to make their ideas socially acceptable. At the same time, they paint the antifascist fight for community self-defense as extreme or violent when in fact these same neo-Nazis are the ones actually committing assault and murder.
This new generation of fascists devote considerable financial resources to promote rallies as prime recruiting grounds to attempt to increase their ranks by attempting to recruit moderate conservatives and run-of-the-mill Republican Party “patriots”– who at least superficially share some of the same beliefs –while at the same time often using dog-whistle phrases and imagery to signal their presence to other fascists.
One reason that this model continues to flourish is that conservatives continue to ignore or play down the presence of active neo-Nazis, fascists, and white supremacists in their midst; often citing “free speech” when it is pointed out, and thus tacitly enabling the hijacking of Conservative rallies for hate groups to recruit and organize within.
This brings us to Andrew Alexander Murphy Harkins, aka “Murphy Harkins”. Murphy Harkins is involved with many local fascists and is affiliated with the racist group True Cascadia. When Murphy Harkins first became known to antifascists, it appears as though he attempted to conceal his racist beliefs and connections, or maybe he became more radicalized throughout the year. However, by June 2017 he was outwardly organizing with known fascist groups like Identity Evropa and True Cascadia. By August 2017, he was caught on film in Charlottesville, Virginia, attending the neo-Nazi/fascist/Confederate revanchist “Unite The Right” rally, both marching in the racist and anti-Semitic torch procession the night before the rally, and also during the violent day of the rally, when one of Murphy’s racist compatriots took the life of Heather Heyer.
In this article we will build the narrative of Murphy’s ties to white supremacist organizing, starting with the first time Murphy Harkins came on our radar at the October 19, 2016 “Build a Wall” rally, which was organized by known racist provocateur James Allsup at the Washington State University, Pullman campus. We will then trace his steps from a seemingly run of the mill conservative towards associating with fascists and fascist organizations in an increasingly open and brazen manner.
In the above pictures, Murphy Harkins can be seen with racist pravocatuer and far right organizer James Allsup along with other compatriots at a pro-Trump “Build The Wall” rally at the Washington State University, Pullman Campus held on October 19th, 2016. Our research shows that after this rally Murphy Harkins built a seemingly strong relationship with James Allsup. Whether or not they were friends or associates prior remains unclear, but from this point onward they built a friendship that has led to them marching together at far more sinister rallies since this first picture together: Since the October 19, 2016 WSUrally it must be noted that James Allsup was pressured to step down from the WSU College Republicans leadership due to his involvement in the infamous Charlottesville, Virginia “Unite The Right” white supremacist rally that left one person dead and several others injured. Also, it should be noted that James Allsup’s Twitter has also been shut down by Twitter due to racist/bigoted tweets.
After the October 19, 2016 rally at WSU, Murphy Harkins was next spotted at the March 4, 2017 Trump rally in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The “March 4 Trump” rally received a lot of press due to the presence and participation of KKK Imperial Grand Wizard Steven Shane Howard and his Nazi “bonehead” friend, Ray Anthony Schneider. Murphy Harkins became agitated and attempted to pick a fight with antifascists and police intervened to move him away from the area. This type of unhinged, erratic behavior is reminiscent of Jeremy Christian, who committed a double murder on the Max train in a racist attack in May of 2017.
Soon after the Lake Oswego rally, Murphy Harkins again popped up at Patriot Prayer’s inaugural rally at Esther Short Park in Vancouver, Washington on April 2, 2017. At this rally Murphy Harkins was seen with known fascists from the area, one of whom was carrying the “Imperium of Man” flag—a flag from the video game Warhammer, which is often used as a fascist dog whistle. Many were also open carrying firearms. Murphy Harkins did not appear to be carrying but hung close to his fellow fascists during the rally.
Murphy Harkins’ next documented appearance was at Joey Gibson/Patriot Prayer’s June 4, 2017 rally in downtown Portland, Oregon, which took place less than two weeks after the racially motivated murder on the MAX light-rail train by Jeremy Christian, which left two people dead and another seriously injured. The June 4th rally featured a speech by the racist, anti-Semitic troll, Tim “Baked Alaska” Gionet, and nationalist media darling Kyle “Based Stickman” Chapman, who sought celebrity by attacking antifascists with a stick in Berkeley, California. Murphy Harkins was observed and documented walking into the rally with then-leader of Oregon Identity Evropa Jake Von Ott, Identity Evropa member Liam Wynn aka Gary Lee, and Kyle “Based Stickman” Chapman. Murphy Harkins was dressed for battle in a helmet, and carried the fascist dog-whistle “Imperium of Man” flag. After the rally, Murphy Harkins was documented enjoying a beer with Gionet, Gionet’s body guard, Tony Foreman, James Allsup, and a host of other far right provocateurs—many of whom flashed white power hand signs in the photo.
Given that Murphy has less notoriety than other alt-right and fascist celebrities, we understand that Murphy’s presence at these events may have only raised the eyebrows of antifascists, who track the who’s who in fascist circles. However, in mid-August, Murphy Harkins attended the notorious white supremacist “Unite The Right” rally in Charlottesville Virginia. The Charlottesville rally was one of the most aggressive attempted displays of far-right force, and one of the largest scale white supremacist rallies in recent history, and led to many clashes, injuries, and one death.
On August 11, 2017, the first day of the “Unite the Right”, white supremacists organized a nighttime torch march to a Thomas Jefferson statue. As the white supremacists marched to the monument with their burning tiki torches, they shouted “Jews will not replace us,” among other extreme racist and nationalist slogans. When the white-supremacist torch bearers arrived at the monument they found about two dozen counter-protesters, whom they attacked. Murphy Harkins was observed, and is documented openly and enthusiastically participating in the white-supremacist torch rally. He was seen wearing a hat that bore the True Cascadia symbol, alongside at least three others wearing the same hat, with the same True Cascadia symbol, signifying group membership. Propublica reported that True Cascadia was one of many hate groups present at that rally. Murphy Harkins was also caught on video shouting for Cascadia members around the time the crowd was dispersing. This would suggest that he might have even been leading the True Cascadia group that evening.
On August 12, 2017 , the second day of the Charlottesville rally, near Emancipation park, hundreds of neo-Nazis and antifascist counter-protesters clashed in and around the park. Murphy Harkins was documented in detail throughout the rally, where he situated himself with the white supremacists. Earlier in the day, Murphy Harkins could be seen standing alongside white supremacists, behind the shield wall of the Traditionalist Workers Party near the steps to Emancipation Park. The TWP is a relatively large, well-known Nationalist Socialist (Nazi) organization. Throughout the day, Murphy Harkins and his cronies from the prior evening were seen with their True Cascadia hats on, while one member of the group carried the True Cascadia group flag. Prior to the racists being driven from Emancipation Park, Murphy Harkins was photographed standing with the Vanguard America contingent, immediately next to James Alex Fields, who later that day drove his car through a crowd of counter-protesters, killing antifascist Heather Heyer.
In conclusion, Murphy Harkins no longer hides his connection to the white supremacist group True Cascadia. He marches with white supremacists, wears the insignia of a white supremacist group (True Cascadia), and was photographed with a neo-Nazi that killed a person who dared to oppose to their hateful views. In Portland, a city with a history of racist violence—where racists and fascists have committed murder on several occasions, we have no other option than to expose Murphy Harkins, a preppy looking Portlander affiliated with the racist group True Cascadia, who works at Wells Fargo as a home loan mortgage agent and fits right into his affluent upper middle class SW Portland neighborhood. Wells Fargo has a history of biased lending that has cost the company a substantial amount on money in settled lawsuits throughout its history. July 13th 2012 it was reported that Wells Fargo was to pay $175 million to settle lending bias allegations against African Americans and Latinx borrowers. We find it completely unacceptable that a someone affiliated with a white supremacist group is not only in the position to deny or interfere with the approval of home loans, but also that he has access to sensitive information about people seeking home loans. We believe Murphy Harkins’ position at Wells Fargo bank puts people at risk. Should Wells Fargo choose to continue to employ Murphy Harkins, it is effectively sanctioning Murphy Harkins’ bigoted and dangerous views.
*UPDATE* Since the writing of this article Murphy Harkins and Wells Fargo have seemingly parted ways, we do not know the complete circumstances surrounding his departure from Wells Fargo, as Wells Fargos statement was vague. Additionally it should be noted that since the writing of this article the website and twitter accounts for True Cascadia were quickly taken down. Harold Covington with the True Cascadia allied Northwest Front had something to say about that on his Twitter page.
We will not tolerate Nazis, Racists, or bigots in our community, and we will expose them when they continue to occupy positions that leave those that would be targeted by white supremacists vulnerable.
